Count Calories; Lose Weight

For years, maybe even a decade, my weight remained consistent. It didn't matter what I ate or how much I exercised. When I got on the scale at home, I weighed exactly 245 pounds. I was a little bigger than I'd like, but I had gotten comfortable with my bodies insistence on staying consistent.

Goals X3

Goals X3 (pronounced “goals by three”) is a way to break down a goal and make it attainable. The idea is simple. First, set a goal and include a time frame for reaching that goal. Next, break that goal down into 3 small things that you can do to reach your goal. Make sure each of these 3 things is small and easy enough that you will actually accomplish the goal. The easier, the better. If you make your items difficult, it will be more difficult to attain your goal.

I print these templates dark and use them as templates. I put the printed card underneath a blank card and then write on the blank card using the grid below it. Great for making planner notes, music notes, flash cards, etc.

Organize Your Office, Cut the FAT

I'm not sure where I first heard about this idea; from a book, perhaps. The idea is simple but has been effective at helping me clear my work space of all the clutter.

FAT stands for File, Act, or Trash. With each item on your desk, each folder, each piece of paper, you need only consider which of three things you will do with it. Either you

These are a set of templates designed to fit on 8.5×11 paper, folded or cut in half. They work well in a standard 3-hole planner and can be printed on just about any printer.

Project Breakdown X3

I call this “breakdown by three”. It's a simple idea. Start with a project that you need to complete. At first, it's daunting. Break that project down into 3 smaller parts. Now, prioritize them by importance. Next, break down the highest priority part into 3 smaller parts and prioritize these new parts. Continue that until you have a list of 3 items that is fairly easy to complete or that cannot be broken down farther. Now, work your way up the tree, completing the …
