Taking Guitar Lesson Notes

It's important to take good notes during your guitar lessons. Here are my suggestions for doing that.

Graph Paper

I prefer standard (also called cartesian) graph paper for my notes. You'll probably need to write text, draw chord shapes, neck diagrams, and guitar tabs. Standard graph paper works well. You can get free printable graph paper at PrintFreeGraphPaper.com or buy a graph paper notebook.

Tab Paper

I created a special template for guitar tab notes. Guitar tab feels “upside down” to me. When I make notes, it helps if the lines on the paper are thicker for the thicker strings. To that end, I created some note paper for taking my guitar tab notes. You can download my template below.

Transpose Your Notes

When you're finished and the topics are still fresh on your mind, transpose your notes again. This will both make your notes more clear and help you remember what you just learned.
