Kitty Litter (Betonite Clay)

I created my first few nozzles with cheap kitty litter that was labeled “made with clay”. I ground it up using a Braun 4169 hand blender using the chopper attachment, both of which I already had.

This clay flakes badly when I drill it.

Fresh Step Litter

Some on the web suggest that Fresh Step brand “Scoopable” works better than cheaper brands. “Tidy Cats” Multicat may be the same stuff.

I've tried Fresh Step brand and it probably works a little better, but not 10 times as good (as the price might suggest). I also tried mixing mineral oil with the Fresh Step. This works even better (and probably would work with the cheap litter). In both cases, I get slight “blow-outs” when I drill. This might be good, as it creates a bit more of a nozzle shape, but I don't like how brittle it is.

Wilsons Water Putty

Maybe I'll try Wilsons Water Putty next. I hear good things about it.

Paper Nozzles

When I was making my nozzle drill, I had the idea to make a nozzle out of paper. So, I went ahead and did just that. I'm not sure it will work, since I haven't tested it yet, but it seems stronger than the clay nozzles. It will probably hold up to the pressure better, but not the heat.
