Maker Projects

Wikipedia defines Maker Culture as a contemporary culture or subculture representing a technology-based extension of DIY culture. Typical interests enjoyed by the maker culture include engineering-oriented pursuits such as electronics, robotics, 3D printing, and the use of CNC tools, as well as more traditional activities such as metalworking, woodworking, and traditional arts and crafts. The subculture stresses new and unique applications of technologies, and encourages invention and prototyping. There is a strong focus on using and learning practical skills and applying them creatively.

I consider myself a Maker. Here are some of my projects.

DIY 3D Printed Stereo Knobs
3D printed knobs for the stereo in my 1996 Chevrolet truck. The old knobs were breaking apart so I measured, designed, and printed new ones.

Homemade Guitars
I built my first homemade guitar in 2013. I plan to build another. Here's some information about the guitar I built as well as lots of plans and ideas for other builds.

2x4 Truck Bed Bicycle Rack
This is a simple bicycle rack made from a single 2×4 board. It works great and cost less than $15 (including hardware).

Cardboard 3D Printer
This is a very simple (unfinished) 3D printer design that can be made with a hobby knife and some cardboard.

Wall Night Organizer
This is a shelf for organizing my phone, wallet, change, knife and Chapstick. It was designed to be made with a scrap piece of 2×4 board and a router table. It could also be 3D printed or cut in cardboard.

Wall Grocery Sack Garbage Can
This is a wall hanging hook for holding a grocery sack for use as a garbage can. Designed to be build from a small piece of 1×4 board and a router.

Dimensional Lumber Sizes
A quick reference of standard US dimensional lumber sizes for creating 3D drawings.

US Coin Sizes and Centers
Some measurement information for US Coin sizes and a printable page for finding their center points.

Find the Center of a Circle
Instructions on how to find the center of a circle using any 90 degree angle, even the corner of a piece of paper.

Shred Recycled Plastic Bottles
Converting plastic cups, bottles, and milk jugs into small pellets or shreds.

Making a Folded Coin Ring from a Quarter
The steps I took to create a coin ring for my wife on mothers day 2015. We were married in 1996 so I made it from a 1996 silver proof (90% silver) quarter.
